TFJP is partnering this jewelry trip, designed by the captivating Carole Fraresso, whom we first met at the Larco Museum a few years ago. A great connoisseur of Peru, this archaeologist, expert in pre-Columbian art, and exhibition curator takes us on a personal tour of places where the history of jewelry has been forged over 5,000 years, and more particularly the goldsmith’s trade of the Mochica, the civilization that preceded the Incas. Their artisans excelled in gilding and the alloys used for ceremonial jewelry, which transformed their rulers into supernatural beings.

An exclusive trip

Lima, Lambayeque, Cusco… The 15-day trip in the company of Carole Fraresso takes you to museums filled with sumptuous collections of headdresses, breastplates, helmets, nose jewels that survived the looting of the royal tombs of the lord of Sipan or the lady of Cao, the Peruvian Tutankhamun… The special highlight of the trip involves the deciphering of these fabulous treasures by specialists, anthropologists, curators, etc. In Cusco, Carole will take you to meet the craftsmen keeping the tradition of silver jewelry alive. In the North of Peru, you will exchange with Armando Castillo, the goldsmith who resuscitated the practices and techniques of the Mochica goldsmiths.

A lifestyle treat

This jeweler’s itinerary also reveals the beauty of the landscapes – in particular in Machu Picchu in the company of the anthropologist Jean-Jacques Decoster. Given that Peruvian high gastronomy is just as fabled as the trade of its Mochica goldsmiths, the itinerary takes in restaurants run by internationally renowned chefs, along with stays at luxurious hotels. And it all comes to a glorious finish on one of the most beautiful beaches of the country. A dream trip…
